Learn to Skate

Want to become a Hockey Player?  

Register for Snowplow Sam 1 (ages 3yrs - 6yrs), Basic 1 (ages 7yrs - 17yrs) or Adult (18+yrs).   

Skaters will be placed into the appropriate class for their skill level and will advance through the Basic skating levels into the Hockey 1-2-3-4 curriculum.    

This is the path to Learn to Play, Girls Hockey, and Hockey Academy.

Try Hockey For Free

Try Hockey for Free is an informal event, designed to give the sport a try, for participants of all ages who are new to ice hockey. Participants will receive instruction in skating, stickhandling and other basic hockey skills.     

Dates are sporadic and spaces are limited, so early registration is suggested. Please use the link below for a list of available dates and to register

Learn to Play

Learn to Play is an introductory hockey program hosted by the Florida Panthers in conjunction with the NHL, the NHL Players Association and USA Hockey.

Participants receive six weeks of on-ice training with the Florida Panthers Alumni and USA Hockey certified coaches. Each participant will be custom fitted for a full set of hockey equipment to use during the program and beyond.     

No minimum experience is required to participate in this program. However, some previous on-ice experience such as a Learn to Skate class series is highly recommended.

Panthers Hockey Academy

The Panthers Hockey Academy Presented by Baptist Health is an 8-week program that bridges the gap between Learn to Skate, Panthers Learn to Play and the Panthers Development League. 

Instruction will focus on skating, puck handling, passing and shooting under the tutelage of the Baptist Health IcePlex professional instructors.    

Prerequisite for enrolling in Panthers Hockey Academy is successful completion of Learn to Skate or evaluation by Panthers Hockey Staff.

Panthers Development League (PDL - Youth Rec League)

The purpose of the Florida Panthers Development League is to create a learning atmosphere which allows players to improve their skills and grow as a player on and off the ice.   

The Baptist Health Iceplex staff coaches will implement the American Development Model (ADM) to maximize age-based skill development.   

Our long-term approach allows us to grow the game starting with the 8U age levels and create an ideal bridge between recreation, high school, and travel hockey.   

This league will forge a path for opportunities and success for ALL hockey players.   

Each player also must have a current USA Hockey Certification number which the player must have prior to registration.

Florida Junior Panthers 

The athletes that have the skill and desire to play at the highest level can try out for the Florida Junior Panthers (FJP-Skates out of the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs).  

 The Junior Panthers practice (3) times a week and play in the Statewide Florida Hockey League.  The Junior Panther high level travel coaching staff is eager to get on the ice with your child!   

The Panthers intend to field teams in the 8U Major & Minor, 10A & 10AA, 12A & 12AA, 14A & 14AA, 16A & 16AA, and 18AA age divisions.

Camps & Clinics

Baptist Health IcePlex offers camps and clinics for all ages and all levels throughout the year that work on the basics skills through advance level training.  

Clinics: Power Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, Body Contact and Compete. You name it, we teach it!  Players need extra development to reach their potential.

Stick & Puck

Stick and Puck is open hockey time for players to practice their skills, drills, and shots on goal. FULL GEAR is REQUIRED for ALL players on the ice. No Exceptions! 

Full gear is:

  • Hockey Skates 

  • Shin Pads 

  • Hockey Socks 

  • Hockey Pants 

  • Shoulder Pads 

  • Elbow pads 

  • Gloves 

  • Helmet- Players under 18 must have a face cage 

  • Neck Guard STRONGLY recommended for all players and is REQUIRED for players under 18.
